As a college student myself, I appreciate the power that facebook has to help (or hurt) me in the job/internship hunt. The last thing I want is for people to see me as an irresponsible, “typical” college party-girl. I have decided to utilize the new & improved facebook privacy settings to keep my profile professional.
I agree that facebook is becoming the first destination for anyone to find out about you. Last summer, I organized a one day job shadow, and I got to talking about facebook with the man I was shadowing. He told me he had tried to look at my facebook. I couldn't believe that he facebooked and googled me for a one day job shadow! Definitely look out because you might be surprised how many people are facebooking you!

I don't think this is an issue just for graduating seniors. As only a Sophomore, I spent my second semester looking for internships but before I did that, I made sure to take off any inappropriate pictures that I had on Facebook. It's difficult to be out at a party and to avoid taking pictures just because a potential employer might be looking you up. Instead of avoiding taking pictures altogether, college students should try to avoid taking pictures with red cups and alcohol bottles in their hands. This way, they still have the memories of their college experience without hurting their future.
I am in a sorority and the President is constantly reminding us to watch what we put up on Facebook. We even have a code where someone will write the word “JOYCE” if the picture needs to be taken down. Now that I am part of AEPHI, everything I do and everything that any other sister does is representative of AEPHI. It's essential that we never take pictures of us drinking with our letters or anything that remotely shows that AEPHI is having a party. We want to remain a good sorority and don't want to do anything to change our image.
